A Russian Air Force Su-34 bomber plane was lost near Borodyanka, Kyiv region, nosing down to the ground after having been hit by an ground-to-air missile.. Fragments of the craft surfaced on 3 March 2022 and later images of a wing panel appeared. Identified as Red 31, registration number RF-81251 shot down in the skies over Chernihiv on Saturday, March 5. Both Russian pilots managed to eject. One of them: major Krasnoyartsev of the Russian Air and Space Forces was captured by Ukrainian Forces, but his co-pilot, identified as major Krivolapov, was killed.
The Sukhoi Su-34 Fullback is an all-weather supersonic medium-range fighter-bomber/strike aircraft developed for the Russian Air Force and Navy with the intent to replace the Su-24M Fencer and Tu-22MS long-range bomber. The Fullback is based on the Su-27 Flanker and has an armoured cockpit that is occupied by two-crew seated side-by-side. The aircrafts main role is deployment against ground and/or naval targets. The export designation of the Su-34 is Su-32.
