The Anson first flew on 24 Mar 35 and was utilised in many roles: Coastal patrol, Air/sea rescue, Training pilots Navigators and other aircrew training, Communications and Transport and was extensively utilised post war. In fact it continued to be built up until 1952. Many air forces continued to utilise the aircraft well into the 50s including RAAF, RCAF and RNZAF. In the RAF it continued to be utilised up until 1968. This totalled 33 years of dedicated RAF service. It was utilised in the war by Britain, Canada (around 3000), Australia (1028), United States (50) New Zealand and many other nations.

The Anson could out turn a Messerschmitt BF109 and it shot down six. The Squadron represented by Oxford’s first release is 500 SQN. Later in the Wara MK-V Anson piloted by PIt Off Philip Peters shot down two BF109s (and maybe one damaged) on operations over Dunkirk 4 Jun 13. This fantastic feat earned the pilot a DFC and the rest of his crew the DFM.
